Adakkam udaiyavan meelimai innaa thodakkam ilaathavan thar-cherukku innaa adaikkalam vavvuthal innaa aangu innaa adakka, adangaathaar sol.
Painful is a normally humble person suddenly turning arrogant. Painful is self-praise from someone who has never actually tried. Painful is seizing something entrusted to you for safekeeping. And painful is offering restraint's own counsel to someone who will never accept it.
As the collection's final verse, it fittingly turns on breaches of restraint and trust: a humble person's sudden arrogance, self-praise from someone who never earned it through effort, theft of what was left in trust, and advice about restraint wasted on someone who will never practice it. It ends the poem on அடக்கம் (self-control), the virtue classical Tamil ethics treats as foundational.
