Times means equal groups. 4 × 3 is 4 groups of 3.

When every group has the same number, you can multiply. 4 × 3 = 12. It is a fast way of adding the same number again and again.

Think of it like this4 plates, with 3 laddoos on each plate. Instead of 3 + 3 + 3 + 3, just say 4 times 3.
