1Lines of symmetry in the letter A?
2Lines of symmetry in a circle?
3Lines of symmetry in an equal-sided triangle?
! Careful!
✗Any line through the middle is a line of symmetry.
✓Only if both halves match exactly when folded.
✗A rectangle has 4 lines of symmetry.
✓Only 2. Corner-to-corner works only for a square.

A shape is symmetrical if you can fold it and both halves match.
The fold line is the line of symmetry. Some shapes have many (a square has 4). Some have none.
Think of it like thisFold a butterfly picture down the middle. The two wings sit exactly on top of each other.
Solved together
How many lines of symmetry does a square have? A rectangle?
Square: fold top to bottom, and side to side. Both work.
Square: fold corner to corner too. All sides are equal, so it works. That makes 4.
Rectangle: corner to corner does not match. Only 2 lines.
AnswerSquare: 4. Rectangle: 2.
Now practise it
