✏️ Your turn!

Type your answer and press Check. Kutty will tell you if it is right.

  1. 1Degrees in a half turn?

  2. 2Is 89° acute, right or obtuse?

  3. 3Angle of clock hands at 3 o’clock?

! Careful!

  • ✗Longer lines make a bigger angle.

✓The angle is the turn, not the length.

  • ✗Reading the wrong scale on a protractor.

✓Ask first: is this angle small or wide?

An angle shows how much something turns.

A square corner is a right angle: 90°. Smaller is acute. Bigger (up to 180°) is obtuse. A straight line is 180°.

Think of it like thisOpen a door a little: small angle. Open it wide: big angle. A full spin all the way round is 360°.

°
Degrees: how we measure turning.

Question

At 4 o’clock, what is the angle between the clock hands?

123456789101112
  1. A full turn is 360°. The clock has 12 spaces.

    360 ÷ 12 = 30° per space
  2. From 12 to 4 is 4 spaces.

    4 × 30° = 120°
  3. 120° is more than 90°, so it is obtuse.

    120°obtuse

Answer120°, an obtuse angle.

Now practise it

Kanakku makes new questions on angles every time. It shows the working and gives a hint when you are stuck.
