Multiply the numbers as usual. Then: same signs give +, different signs give −.
Look: The sign rule. Same signs: plus. Different signs: minus.

1(−7) × 6 = ?
2(−9) × (−9) = ?
356 ÷ (−8) = ?
! Careful!
✗−3 × −4 = −12.
✓Same signs: +12.
✗Using this rule for adding: −3 + −4 = +7.
✓For adding, use the number line: −7.

Multiply the numbers as usual. Then: same signs give +, different signs give −.
3 × −2 = −6 (different signs). −3 × −2 = +6 (same signs). Division follows the same sign rule.
Think of it like thisThink of "not unhappy": two negatives make a positive. "Not happy" (one negative) stays negative.
Solved together
A diver goes down 4 m every minute. Where is she after 6 minutes?
Going down is negative: −4 m each minute, for 6 minutes.
6 × (−4)Numbers: 6 × 4 = 24. Signs are different, so the answer is negative.
= −24
AnswerShe is at −24 m (24 m below the surface).
Now practise it
Kanakku makes new questions on integers: × and ÷ every time. It shows the working and gives a hint when you are stuck.
