25% = 25 out of 100 = ¼. To find a percent of an amount, divide by 100 and multiply by the percent. Profit = selling price − buying price.
Think of it like thisA "25% off" sale takes ₹25 off every ₹100. A ₹400 shirt costs ₹100 less.

Solved together
A shopkeeper buys a fan for ₹1,200 and wants 15% profit. What should he sell it for?
1% of 1,200 is 12.
1,200 ÷ 100 = 1215% is 15 times that.
15 × 12 = 180Add the profit to the cost.
1,200 + 180 = 1,380
AnswerSell it for ₹1,380.
For older learners and grown-ups: a little more
Simple interest = Principal × Rate × Time ÷ 100. ₹1,200 at 8% for 3 years earns 1,200 × 8 × 3 ÷ 100 = ₹288.
