An equation with x and y has lots of answers, and they all sit on one straight line.
Look: Three answers of 2x + y = 6, all on one line.
✏️ Your turn!
Type your answer and press Check. Kutty will tell you if it is right.
1Is (2, 2) an answer of 2x + y = 6?
2If x = 0 in x + 2y = 8, y = ?
3Give another answer of 2x + y = 6.
! Careful!
✗Thinking 2x + y = 6 has one answer.
✓It has many. You need two equations to get just one.
✗Plotting only two points.
✓Plot three to check they line up.

An equation with x and y has lots of answers, and they all sit on one straight line.
For 2x + y = 6, try x = 0, 1, 3 and find y each time. Plot the pairs. They line up perfectly.
Think of it like this2 pens and 1 notebook cost ₹60. Pens could be ₹10 and notebook ₹40, or ₹20 and ₹20… Many answers, all on one line.
Solved together
2 pens (₹x each) and 1 notebook (₹y) cost ₹60. Find some possible prices.
Write it as an equation.
2x + y = 60Choose x, then y = 60 − 2x.
AnswerFor example ₹10 and ₹40, or ₹20 and ₹20. Every point on the line works.
